2025-26 Grantees at our first annual Grantee Awards Night, September 2025
Scituate Education Foundation is proud to announce our 2025-26 Grantees:
SOUTH SHORE PEER RECOVERY:
South Shore Peer Recovery has been awarded $2,400 to launch a Creative Community workshop series. This will be a monthly hands-on art experience for individuals in recovery from substance abuse disorders. Led by rotating guest artists, these workshops will introduce participants to different artistic mediums and offer a space for self-expression, emotional healing and community connection. South Shore Peer Recovery is a critical support center in our community and SEF is thrilled to support the important work they’re doing for residents in recovery.
THE IEXCEL PROGRAM AT SCITUATE HIGH SCHOOL:
The iExcel Program at SHS has been awarded $660 for their ‘Sailor Launch’ program. These funds will be used to purchase a coffee cart to be used in their student-run initiative, which is designed to foster independence, build vocational skills and promote social-emotional growth for students in their specialized 14-22 year old program. iExcel’s coffee program is already a popular fixture in the high school, and SEF is so happy to assist the program as it evolves.
GATES MIDDLE SCHOOL DIGITAL LITERACY & COMPUTER SCIENCE:
This grant provides $1,790 to purchase Edison Robots for the 6th & 8th grade classrooms at Gates Middle School. These robots are a simple, engaging, hands-on tool for teaching coding, robotics and STEM concepts. In using the robots, students will develop critical skills such as problem-solving, teamwork & creativity while learning about computer science in a fun, interactive way. SEF loves supporting new tools to foster STEM learning and we are grateful to be a part of this project!
SCITUATE LIBRARY FOUNDATION:
This grant helps expand on an existing initiative, started in 2024, by the Scituate Library Foundation, Scituate Town Library and supported by SEF, to purchase Launchpad tablets. Since the purchase of the initial 41 tablets for the Children’s room, which come pre-loaded with a range of learning apps, videos & interactive educational games, they have been in high demand. This second round of new tablets will be targeted to the most popular age groups. A portion of the tablets will benefit 5-7 year olds as they work on early reading & STEM, while the others will be for the Teen Room, providing a selection of SAT & ACT test prep tools. The success and popularity of this initiative have been wonderful to watch over the past year, and we’re grateful to continue working with the Scituate Library & Scituate Library Foundation as they expand their community offerings.
COMMISSION ON DISABILITIES:
The Scituate Commission on Disabilities is receiving $600 tonight to fund the cost of renting The Reel theater on Front Street for their film forum showing ‘The Peanut Butter Falcon’. Following the film, they’ll be hosting a discussion for local community members with disabilities to discuss their lived experiences and how they relate to themes in the movie.
SCITUATE TOWN LIBRARY:
The Scituate Town Library is receiving $953 to fund its Copper Nightlight Workshops. These funds will bring Heather Beck, and MA-based metal smith, to the library to lead two copper nightlight workshops- one for teens in grades 6-12 and another for adults. These hands-on workshops will introduce participants to basic metal texturing, embossing & piercing techniques while crafting their own functional and decorative nightlight cover. We’re all so lucky to have access to the wide range of offerings at the Scituate Library and SEF is excited to provide funding for this event. These two sessions will be held on November 13th, with registration opening on October 27th.
JENKINS PTO:
This Fall, the Jenkins PTO will bring ‘The Bionic Project’ to the school’s 344 K-5 students. The Bionic Project is a non-profit that aims to use storytelling and interactive programming specifically designed to engage young people as the next step to building a more inclusive future. Scituate Education Foundation is pleased to provide funding of $250 for the Bionic Project Book list for the Jenkins Library. These books on disability and inclusivity supplement the presentations and allow students to continue exploring these topics.
SCITUATE SISTER CITY PROJECT:
The Scituate Sister City Project is planning an educational & cultural initiative designed to share the legacy of Amilcar Lopes Cabral, who was an instrumental figure in Guinea-Bissau & Cape Verde’s independence from colonial rule. SEF is proud to provide funding for the three speakers at this event, who will help educate attendees on this important historical figure. This event is scheduled for October 26th at Scituate’s GAR Hall.
THE CENTER FOR STUDENT COASTAL RESEARCH:
SEF is thrilled to support CSCR’s Middle School Program and their ‘Wave Power & Shoreline Stabilization Experiments’. The program is designed to inspire curiosity, interest and inventiveness among Middle Schoolers, specifically in the area of ocean-based wave & tidal powered energy generation and innovative shoreline stabilization. SEF’s grant of $816 will purchase the materials and supplies needed for this project, including Environmental & Structural Engineering kits.
SCITUATE TOWN LIBRARY:
SEF is proudly supporting The Scituate Town Library’s ‘Importance of Play’ initiative, designed to encourage lifelong learning with nontraditional materials. This grant of $3,000 will purchase items for the children’s room and rotating collection that engage and entertain users while encouraging purposeful play, learning, exploration & creativity. With these materials, children will develop key skills in language, math, spatial awareness and fine motor skills. This addition to the Town Library is a benefit accessible to all Scituate residents and SEF is happy to be a partner.
GATES MIDDLE SCHOOL:
This grant of $850 is being made to the Gates Middle School Gender & Sexuality Alliance, funding attendance at two regional meetings during the upcoming school year. The regional gatherings are impactful spaces for our LGBTQIA+ students, where they can meet students in other districts and gain guided support from experienced staff. During these half-day meetings, participants discuss relevant issues, connect socially and collaborate on advocacy issues. SEF is proud to support the GSA and its connection to other students across the state.
SCITUATE FIRST ROBOTICS:
The SHS Robotics Team, the Cyber Sailors, is a wonderful group of students and adult advisors who work together and compete against other Robotics teams across New England. SEF is happily providing a grant of $2,000 for the purchase of 4 dedicated coding laptops. These computers will allow students who do not have a powerful enough computer at home to participate in the robotics team, to onboard interested 8th graders and create a dedicated coding sub team. We can’t wait to see what the Cyber Sailors achieve this year!
CUSHING SCHOOL:
Last but not least, SEF is happy to provide funding of $2,100 for the Cushing Third Grade teachers to purchase 3 HUION Kamvas tablets. Teachers will use the tablets for dynamic presentation of lessons and to support both in-person and remote learning environments. Students and their families will have improved access to learning materials, increasing student engagement and comprehension. The tablets allow for real-time annotation and highlighting of lesson materials, which will help students maintain focus and clarify complex concepts.
