GRANTS IN ACTION: LANGUAGE + HISTORY
JARRETT KROSOCZKA WRITING WORKSHOP
New York Times best-selling author Jarrett Krosoczka received these rave reviews following his April 4 presentations and workshops at Cushing Elementary School. Krosoczka is the award-winning author and/or illustrator of more than thirty books for young readers. His work includes several picture books, the Lunch Lady graphic novels, and the Platypus Police Squad middle-grade novel series. Hugely popular with a broad audience, he has been featured on NPR and his two TED talks have had more the 2 million views online. Cushing PTO Enrichment Coordinator Jan Kelly, author of the grant proposal, calls him “a real-life role model for perseverance, hard work, and determination.” Krosoczka’s visit to Cushing was made possible by a Scituate Education Foundation (SEF) Grant awarded to the Cushing PTO.
Storyboard That is an amazing digital storytelling web tool that helps promote 21st century learning skills such as creativity and presentation skills while keeping students highly engaged in their work. It can be used in ALL academic areas for a wide variety of learning purposes with endless possibilities of how teachers and students can use the program. This online tool enables students to map out stories with words and images. It can be used in any subject area to bring concepts and projects to life. Students can bring a book to life, diagram a process, build a timeline, practice vocabulary, visualize math problems, show cause and effect, and LOTS more.
